We’re proud to share that Gabrielle and Christopher Tylor, co-founders of exci, have been honoured in Swinburne University of Technology’s 2022 Alumni Impact Awards.
This prestigious recognition celebrates alumni making meaningful contributions to society, and Gabrielle and Christopher were recognised for their groundbreaking work in AI-powered early wildfire detection — a field where speed, accuracy, and innovation save lives, ecosystems, and infrastructure.
At the core of exci’s technology is a proprietary, Australian-made AI system that scans vast landscapes using cameras and satellite data. It continuously monitors for smoke indications and thermal anomalies, identifying wildfires within minutes of ignition. Trained on the world’s largest dataset of wildfire imagery – exclusively owned by exci – our AI delivers exceptional accuracy and an almost zero false alarm rate, making it a vital tool for protecting forests, agriculture, telecommunications, and communities.
As climate change accelerates the frequency and severity of bushfires, the need for ultra-early detection has never been more urgent. This award highlights how purpose-driven Australian innovation, when driven by science, can lead to tangible real-world impact.
Why This Award Matters
The Alumni Impact Awards recognise Swinburne graduates who not only excel in their fields but also make meaningful contributions to society.
